F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are those ugly black lines around the baseboards?

A: If you have light colored  carpet, you may have experienced these dark lines that appear on the carpet.  This soiling is called filtration soiling because it comes from air passing  through the carpet as it is attempting to get through the crack between the  carpet and the baseboard or under a closed door. As the  air passes through the edge of the carpet pile, this microscopic soiling is  deposited there (hence the term filtration soiling). This occurs over a  significant period of time and is not noticed until a build up has occurred. In most cases Carpet Technlogies can remove 90-99% of filtration soiling.

Q: How soon can I walk on the carpet?

A: Your carpeting will dry within 2-3 hours depending on various circumstances (level of soiling, air circulation, humidity and other)Try to keep pets, children and heavy traffic off the carpet during the drying process. Wait 24 hours before removing foam blocks or protective tabs that our technicians have placed under the furniture to protect the carpet.

Q: What about re-occurring spots & stains?

A: We provide a 15 day touch up guarantee, so feel free to call us straight away if any spot returns and we will re-treat the areas needed. If a spot returns a day or so after cleaning, it may have been due to the nature of the spot. Deep stains tend to surface if they are in the backing of the carpet. Not all stains are removable due to many circumstances such as: how long the stain has been left on the fiber untreated and most over the counter spotters tend to set the stain creating a permanent bond with the carpeting fibers.

Q: How often should a carpet be cleaned?

A: The frequency of cleaning will vary from one household to another, depending upon the number of occupants and the level of usage. At a minimum, you should clean once a year. I have had some homeowners express their fears that once the carpet is cleaned, it will re-soil more quickly. This fear is a result of improper cleaning on the part of uneducated cleaners. Many of these cleaners, in an effort to cut costs and save time, will buy the least expensive cleaning solutions, won’t pay for the proper training & education, and will not offer a separate rinse step in order to remove detergent residue. If detergent is left in the carpet, accelerated re-soiling will occur. Carpet Technologies uses a more thorough method of cleaning that uses a rinse step after the re-spray process. This method removes deep down soil and leaves no detergents to accelerate the re-soiling process. The fact is the best thing you can do for your carpets is to have them regularly cleaned by a qualified professional carpet cleaning company. It is the buildup of soil that promotes wear to your carpet far more than foot traffic. Foot traffic grinds the soil against the carpet fibers and causes a sandpaper effect. This will cause the fibers to dull and become warn looking.

Q: How long does the carpet cleaning process take?

A: We are able to clean approximately 400 square feet per hour. This can vary slightly depending upon the amount of soil, how much furniture needs to be moved, specialty spotting procedures, and setup time.

Q: Do you move furniture?

A: Our cleaning process includes moving light furniture in the main living area such as end tables, coffee tables chairs, plants, sofas and love seat. Beds, dressers, and heavier pieces are left in place under our regular pricing structure. Additional charges will apply to move heavier furniture. For liability reasons, we do not move china hutches, pianos, or other valuable belongings.

Q: My carpet has bleached or faded spots, can you correct that?

A: If you have spots or small areas that have been bleached out, they may be spot dyed, depending on the type of carpet fiber and severity of area.

Q: Can you fix indentations from heavy furniture?

A: No guarantee can be made on removing indentations from heavy furniture. In addition to the pile of the carpet being crushed, the backing of the carpet is indented. Heat, moisture, and hand grooming with our equipment may help, but it will take time to release back to normal, if at all. Severe cases may be permanent.

Q: Why should I clean my carpet?

A: Bio contaminants, volatile organic compounds, dust mites, outdoor pollutants, pesticides, allergens, grease and oil deposits, sand, soil, food particles, bacteria, and a host of other really gross stuff will make its way into your carpet. Quite simply, your carpet acts like a filter. It collects and filters all of the above mentioned contaminants. This collection and filtering process traps these contaminants within your carpet, which in turns cleans the air you breathe and allows you to live a healthier life. Hard surface floors may allow contaminants to “roam” throughout the indoor environment. But like any other filter, your carpet needs to be cleaned on a regular basis, or it will lose its filtering ability. If these contaminants are in your home, they could be contributing to your family’s health and allergy problems. Dr. Michael Berry, Deputy Director of the Environmental Criteria and Assessment Office of the Environmental Protection Agency stated, “Based on what I have learned from researchers working in the United States, Canada, and Western Europe, I have reached the conclusion that carpeting and fabrics that are not properly cleaned and maintained have the potential to cause a variety of health problems inside the building and home environment.”

Q: Why should I have my carpets protected?

A: Scotch Gard Carpet Protection helps you in two very important ways:

When this protective coating is applied to the carpet fibers, it puts a protective barrier around each fiber. This protective barrier resists moisture. When you do have a spill, it gives you a window of time to get it cleaned up. The other important way that this product helps you is in the area of wear. Having this protective coating on your carpet helps reduce the wear and abrasion caused by sand in the carpet. This protects the carpet from excessive matting, and in turn will cause your carpet to perform better and last longer.

Don’t Make These Mistakes:

A) DO YOU CONSIDER PRICE ONLY OR FALL FOR $8 PER ROOM BAIT AND SWITCH SCHEMES?
When companies offer low lead in prices be assured you’re going to end up paying high “extra work” charges, or forfeit the quality you need when you need it most.

Dont fall for low price scams!

B) DO YOU EXPECT MORE THAN CAN POSSIBLY BE DELIVERED FOR A LOW PRICE?
A great job will always cost a quality price. Sooner or later you’ll save money, and headache making quality purchases. Buy cheap, buy twice.

C) DO YOU CHECK REFERENCES, LICENSE, INSURANCE, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC?
The market is full of new inexperienced cleaners that will cause you a lot of future problems out weighing their attractive pricing now.

D) DO YOU NOT HAVE A GUARANTEE IN WRITING?
A company that will put a guarantee in writing must be accountable for it’s actions.

E) DO YOU JUMP FROM ONE COMPANY TO ANOTHER?
A quality oriented, honest company wants to please you. This is of great benefit to you. With proper communication (don’t be afraid to tell them what you want or need), you can customize a service to fit your needs. Time invested in good honest communication on both sides always pays great dividends.

AVOIDING SIMPLE MISTAKES LIKE THE ONES ABOVE WILL SAVE YOU IN MANY WAYS, MAINLY TIME AS WELL AS MONEY.
